Why...
Obadiah is simply known as a man who has a vision that is recorded in the Old Testament. His name simply means, "servant of the LORD." He begins his story with, "Thus says the LORD God...." He further says, "For the LORD has spoken." Obadiah's message is simply that GOD is sovereign and just and HIS people's faith should be strengthened because it is GOD's righteous purpose that determines history and not the evil will of men." New Geneva Study Bible. Obadiah appeals to me on a few levels. He only proclaims what the LORD says where today we seem more concerned with how one person or another interprets what God says. Also many people seem to believe and express what a friend and I called, "Popular Theology." We defined popular theology as something that many people seem to believe that actually has no Biblical basis. Of course "Theology" is another one of those words that people shy away from, like the word "Doctrine." Where theology is, "the study of religious faith, practice, and experience; especially : the study of God and of God's relation to the world." And doctine is, "something that is taught b: a principle or position or the body of principles in a branch of knowledge or system of belief." Simply I say, "Thus says the LORD," and stand with both feet on the Word of GOD."
